Nyepi & Ogoh-Ogoh Festival

Nyepi & Ogoh-Ogoh Festival

Nyepi is one of the most significant events on the Indonesian calendar and it should top your list of things to experience in Bali in 2019. Nyepi is the first day of the Saka New Year and is a vivid celebration of traditions, spirituality and rebirth. This annual event sees entire communities come together to welcome in the New Year. On the eve of Nyepi, the Balinese people take to their local temple for quiet prayers, warning away any negative spirits for the year ahead. At around 7pm villages become filled with colourful papier-mâché models known as Ogoh-Ogoh. These bright and frightful puppets represent omens and are paraded through streets across Bali to celebrate their departure. The next morning, Bali welcomes the Day of Silence. All activity on the island comes to a complete stand-still. Visitors are expected to stay indoors and respect this sacred tradition.

Lin Gwan Kiong Temple

Lin Gwan Kiong Temple

If you are a Chinese temple enthusiast, visit Lin Gwan Kiong Temple to feed your curiosity. This old Chinese temple, dominantly painted in red, takes only a 15-minute drive from Lovina Beach to reach. The “klenteng” (the local name for Chinese Buddhist temple) has a historical connection to the Chinese dynasty of Ching. The small gardens surrounded by mural walls are captivating and so are the carved gates. Gwan Kiong Temple is located at Jalan Erlangga No.65, Kampung Bugis, Buleleng. Put it on your list for whenever you are in the northern part of Bali.

Absolutely beautiful setting. The infinity pool was a little slice of heaven. Our tent room was beyond fun. The staff couldn’t have been any better or friendlier. We enjoyed the food very much and one night had some fish for dinner that was beyond delicious! Well worth going a little out of your way for! JeffnLiz V, USA

This is a part of Bali that we were looking for. We drove from Umalas along the coast and were greeted at the resort with welcoming smiles, super fast check-in and a lovely tented room. We couldn't believe how peaceful it was. The design is simple and neutral - similar to properties we've stayed at in Mozambique: open air, natural palette, no unnecessary detailing, very comfortable. We categorise Menjangan Dynasty Resort in the middle-up to exclusive resort and very approachable. It's well-priced, on compact grounds, well-designed and without unnecessary frills. There are so many good things to say about the stay: the staff were very friendly and informed, the food was good, the activities were diverse (SUP, kayaking, snorkelling, day trips etc), the room is gorgeous, the view is incredible. We stayed two days, one night. It felt like a week, we were so instantly relaxed. A great place for a couple to visit - the quietness is perfect for passing the day on the beach, reading at the poolside, doing water activities.   Overall, an excellent stay. Highly recommended! Clee Browne, CHINA
